ScratchR: powering the Scratch Online Community

The Scratch online community, dubbed the "YouTube of interactive media", is an active website that receives more than 6 million page views per month by close to a million visitors from around the world. ScratchR is the social media platform developed to support this website. The online community received an honorary mention in the Ars Electronica prix 2008.

People: The research and development of the Scratch website is led by Andrés Monroy-Hernández with the help of Anupom Syam, Amos Blanton, Mark Goff, Vladmir Vuksan and the members of the Lifelong Kindergarten group.

Technology: ScratchR  was developed using  Free and Open Source Software (CakePHP, MySQL, Apache, Memcached) and is also freely available under the General Public License. The Scratch forums are running using FluxBB and the support pages are using the MIT Media Lab Drupal server.
